Some test renders demonstrating the power of vector displacements coupled with adaptive subdivision in Blender. This is a new feature that is currently available in pre-release experimental builds. Model and maps are from nutelZ's very good youtube video on the subject: https://youtu.be/iNAdi1nzOvE There are no colour textures or normal maps in use here, only an HDRi for lighting and the displacement map: this is where all the detail comes from (the colour variations are down to the HDR (a plain BSDF shader was used with a high roughness and a cream-ish basecolour).
